BoTox, Bo-Not!
Preserving my skin as it ages is crucial to me. My skin routine is good, but I find that some products that promise a lot fail to deliver, especially for fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is a subject that gets a lot of attention in the media and among friends. The thought of having Botox, a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, injected into me is a conversation-ender. A friend of mine suggested microneedling with PRP. It is all-natural and gave my friend remarkable results. I thought, "Why not?" As in any procedure, you have to feel comfortable with the person giving you the service. I first went to Cathy Orander at Blue Salon in Marion, Massachusetts, for a facial so that I could get to know Cathy and learn more about the microneedling and PRP work. I had one of the best facials I have ever had. She was knowledgeable about skincare and made me feel comfortable moving forward and trying the microneedling with PRP, and I am glad I did! The treatment gave me great results. There is no question it is worth a try.
What is Microneedling and PRP and how does it work?
After a small blood draw, your clinician will apply a topical anesthetic to your face. Then they'll pass over it with a microneedling pen or derma-roller. These devices prick tiny holes in your skin, stimulating its natural healing processes – and creating channels for the PRP. In addition, the tiny breaks in the skin stimulate collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin, which allows for facial rejuvenation by reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and scars.
The microneedling portion of the procedure typically takes about 30 minutes – giving your clinician plenty of time to centrifugate that blood sample into PRP.
Next, your clinician will massage the PRP into the treated areas of the skin. This step helps the platelets and beneficial growth factors in PRP penetrate deep into your skin to work their rejuvenating magic.
Finally, your clinician will apply a balm to your face to reduce redness and irritation. The treatment usually takes less than two hours in total and has little to no downtime. Many patients return to work the next day.
What Skin Conditions Can Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treat?
Microneedling (with or without PRP) can improve a variety of skin conditions, including:
• Acne scars
• Age spots
• Wrinkling
• Sun damage
• Scarring caused by injuries such as burns
• Hyperpigmentation
Even if you're lucky not to have any of these issues, consider microneedling with PRP to improve your skin's tone, texture, and overall appearance.
The treatment is usually well-tolerated in adults and has very few side effects other than minor irritation for a couple of days. For best results, patients should avoid direct sunlight and minimize their use of personal skin care products for the first few days of recovery.
Microneedling with PRP is a powerful treatment for various common skin concerns.

ANTI-SAGGING TREATMENT
(is this really a thing that can work?!)
I purchased Medix Retinol Body Lotion Firming Moisturizer & Crepey Skin Care Treatment from Amazon. It is incredibly reasonably priced (2 (15 oz) bottles for 26.95. I leave one by my sink and one bottle in my closet. I target the inside of my thighs, upper arms, forehead, and the creases on my chin with this cream, and I can see results. The lotion contains retinol and ferulic acid and targets wrinkles, sagging skin, stretch marks, and sun-damaged dry skin.
