When my sister first got married (35 years ago) and was hosting her first Thanksgiving, her hairdresser asked her if she would marinate her turkey. "Marinate a turkey?" was her response! We have never done that. And 35 years later, we would only cook a turkey if we prepared the turkey the night before with this marinade. We have found, it truly helps make the moistest turkey we ever had! Bon Apetit! Prepare turkey the night before with this marinade
I created the acronym KOGIWU (pronounced Ko - Gee - Wooh!), the Kingdom of God is within You, to help me to try to explain to my kids, tweens and teens at the time (2009) how the role faith plays in my life on a daily basis. Read more on the KOGIWU website.
Preserving my skin as it ages is crucial to me. My skin routine is good, but I find that some products that promise a lot fail to deliver, especially for fine lines and wrinkles. Botox is a subject that gets a lot of attention in the media and among friends. The thought of having Botox, a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, injected into me is a conversation-ender. A friend of mine suggested microneedling with PRP. It is all-natural and gave my friend remarkable results. I thought, "Why not?" As in any procedure, you have to feel comfortable with the person giving you the service. I first went to Cathy Orander at Blue Salon in Marion, Massachusetts, for a facial so that I could get to know Cathy and learn more about the microneedling and PRP work. I had one of the best facials I have ever had. She was knowledgeable about skincare and made me feel comfortable moving forward and trying the microneedling with PRP, and I am glad I did! The treatment gave me great results. There is no question it is worth a try. Below is more information on precisely what it is and how it works. Cathy's contact info is below as well. How Does Microneedling with PRP Work? After a small blood draw, your clinician will apply a topical anesthetic to your face. Then they'll pass over it with a microneedling pen or derma-roller. These devices prick tiny holes in your skin, stimulating its natural healing processes – and creating channels for the PRP. In addition, the tiny breaks in the skin stimulate collagen production in the deeper layers of the skin, which allows for facial rejuvenation by reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and scars.
The microneedling portion of the procedure typically takes about 30 minutes – giving your clinician plenty of time to centrifugate that blood sample into PRP. Next, your clinician will massage the PRP into the treated areas of the skin. This step helps the platelets and beneficial growth factors in PRP penetrate deep into your skin to work their rejuvenating magic. Finally, your clinician will apply a balm to your face to reduce redness and irritation. The treatment usually takes less than two hours in total and has little to no downtime. Many patients return to work the next day. What Skin Conditions Can Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treat? Microneedling (with or without PRP) can improve a variety of skin conditions, including: • Acne scars • Age spots • Wrinkling • Sun damage • Scarring caused by injuries such as burns • Hyperpigmentation Even if you're lucky not to have any of these issues, consider microneedling with PRP to improve your skin's tone, texture, and overall appearance. The treatment is usually well-tolerated in adults and has very few side effects other than minor irritation for a couple of days. For best results, patients should avoid direct sunlight and minimize their use of personal skin care products for the first few days of recovery. Microneedling with PRP is a powerful treatment for various common skin concerns. My husband and son have both been adding a pinch of salt to take the bitterness out of coffee. I was curious and researched it a bit. In fact, it is scientifically proven! I have included a link to an article about it. Why not give it a try if you find your coffee a little too bitter?!
A friend of mine had a brunch to introduce her friends to many foods she committed to while recovering from various health issues. At the brunch, she gave us all the book, The Medical Medium, which recommends multiple cleanses as a journey to health and is a proponent of celery juice. One takeaway from the brunch was how effective a daily celery juice was to cleanse the body. Some of the claims of celery juice are that it is hydrating and has nutrients. Other claims that are not proven are that it helps gut health and prevents illness. I decided to try celery juice; I just had to find a source of celery juice that I liked. Fortunately, Namaste Cafe makes excellent celery juice. I have extra ginger in it because I love the taste, and it has health benefits.
Cupping is an ancient healing therapy where glass cups are put on the source of a tight muscle or pain to create suction, and once the suction is released, redness or a bruise may appear in the area. The suction creates blood flow that my promote healing and reduce pain. Cupping was documented in one of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, Ebers Papyrus, which was written in 1550 B.C. I have been doing cupping for over twenty years through my acupuncturist and masseuse. For me, it gives my tight muscles relief and mobility. Many massage therapists and acupuncturists offer cupping in their services. On the South Shore of Boston, massage therapist Jen Savage offers cupping and does an excellent job. Her contact info is below.
A friend had visited Canyon Ranch and learned about the benefits of Tart Cherry Juice. And the benefits are many. It can help fight inflammation, reduce muscle soreness, and boost your immune system. Tart cherry juice contains melatonin, so it may help you sleep better. I understand a young mom went viral on TikTok touting its sleep benefits for her toddler, and it is selling out at many grocery stores! I find it delicious and replaced my red wine with it during Dry-January. It is much tastier than non-alcoholic wine! I buy the organic brand of Lakewood, but your local grocer may have other brands and varieties. The most important thing is to make sure it is Tart Cherry Juice.
While the scientific evidence does not support ingesting local honey helps with seasonal allergies, it has worked for me. I was a terrible allergy sufferer. I faithfully have a tablespoon of local honey daily with one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 4 ounces of warm water. According to the Tom's of Maine website, local bees make local honey, which means the pollen they collect and brings back to the hive is all sourced from local plants. Since many seasonal allergies are caused by these same plants, eating honey-containing pollen can combat those allergies. While no formal studies have been conducted on the effects of local honey on allergies the idea behind trace exposure to allergens to desensitize patients to food allergies is gaining steam. In addition to potentially fighting allergies, one of the great benefits of local honey is that it's unprocessed and pure. The stuff you find in the grocery stores is often filtered a process that removes the trace amounts of pollen it might contain. The purer the honey, the stronger its medicinal benefits like potential anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
I have a rule of thumb for adding to this blog. When I share information more than once, especially within days of each other, I will add it to my blog. For years, I have been using YouTube stations for calming dog music to play when our dogs are by themselves or head to the vet. We recently got a beautiful new puppy, and when I am working near her during the day, I play calm music through our TV, which makes for a relaxing time for all of us! I have added a link below to one of the YouTube channels, but there are many. Once you have played one, many similar channels will be suggested. Enjoy!
