I was led to acupuncture about 20 years ago. I was having recurrent sinus infections and could not solve stopping them. I met with medical specialists to no avail. A friend suggested trying acupuncture, and I thought, 'why not'?! In the early days, my acupuncturist asked if I would be a guinea pig for facial or cosmetic acupuncture. I committed to going once a week for six weeks, and the results were noticeable. Facial acupuncture not only tightened the muscles on my face but had a positive impact on my sinuses.
Regarding my sinus infections, I may have had one or two in the last 20 years. I continue to go regularly for my overall health. Acupuncture relieves tight muscles tremendously. If I feel a cold coming on, I will head in to boost my immune system. Finding the right acupuncturist is critical. I find friend referrals the best. Unfortunately, my acupuncturist is no longer taking new clients. The iWalk iPhone charger is a game changer as portable chargers go.

During Covid, I tried. I did! Fortunately, my daughter was home and found a private studio that allowed one or two people, with masks, to workout in the studio during Covid. We were serendipitously paired with Cheryl Krueger as our instructor. I had no idea, at the time, how transformative Pilates would be for me. Pilates has helped me with core stabilization, strength, flexibility, and balance and has made me conscious of proper alignment in my everyday activities. As with any practice, the right instructor matters. Cheryl is an exceptional instructor. She was a dancer, a dance instructor, and is the most amazing Pilates instructor I could have imagined. I commit to two times a week, sometimes three. Unquestionably, the work I do with Cheryl keeps my body healthy and strong for my other activities. Cheryl now has her own studio - Pilates - The Studio - at Millbrook Station in Duxbury. Text Cheryl for a 30 minute complimentary consult and mention you saw this on Nancy's Almanac!
In February, I went to a Full Moon Sound Bath Meditation. When we arrived, our lovely host, Mandy Goldman, welcomed us and asked us to choose a comfy mat. At the mat, there was a mason jar filled with distilled water which we would later learn was 'Moon Water.' Before the meditation began, we held our waste and, embracing the jar, set an intention for the month. I put my moon water jar outside under the full moon that evening. I brought the water inside the following morning and used it in my plants. You can use the water for anything; you can clean with it; drink it, anything you can think of! The thought is that your intention will manifest during the month with the energy of your Moon Water. I was intrigued and did some digging. It turns out that "Moon water has been used for centuries to help humans embrace and absorb energy from the full moon," says astrologer Jennifer Racioppi, author of Cosmic Health. It may be a coincidence, but my orange tree blossomed in February and has never bloomed!
The following month, I set my intention and left my water under the moon! Mark your calendars for the next full moon! Click on the button below to read more about Moon Water. I learned that Frank Ocean was introduced to Wim Hof to help manage his grief from the death of his brother. I knew Wim Hof was known as the cold therapy guru and was intrigued to learn more. Since studying the Wim Hof Method, I now am a true believer of Cold Therapy and put the last 2 minutes of my shower on the coldest temperature. My deep dive into Wim Hof introduced me to James Nestor author of Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art. Both Wim Hof and James Nestor have many YouTube videos and information on their websites that highlight the benefits of breathing properly and cold therapy. I am a believer!
Did you realize that you can now apply for Domestic TSA PreCheck through your local Staples? It does not include worldwide travel. Fill out the TSA Application online and then make an appointment at a local Staples to finish the process. It is that easy. When you head to Staples, you can do a one stop travel stop and pick up a sharpie (great for your travel bag!), or other travel necessities while you are there.
I have incredibly sensitive skin, especially in the eyes area. I have tried a number of products purchasing them from a range of places included the local pharmacy, websites, spas, retailers that cater to skin and make-up. Here are some of my favorites. - Cleanser - I am a huge fan of the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil. I keep one at my sink and in the shower. Moisturizing Lotions - I use different moisturizing lotions for different purposes. 1. Daily and Nightly - No7 Beauty is a British firm that has been around since 1935. Their products are reasonable and purchased at Walgreens. I use the Lift & Luminate - the day cream has 30 SPF. 2. Tata Harper Retinoic Oil - while pricier than a lot of other oils, the vibrance is gives my skin is noticeable. I put it on. as soon as I wake up and in the early evening. 3. SPF before you head out - A couple of other products that I love are Jan Marini Step 5 with SPF 33 is my go to in the summer for face protection. Eye Creams - I have a hard time finding the right eye cream due to sensitivity around my eyes. I genetically have dark circles so I am on a constant quest to find the right eye cream. So far, my favorite is TS Serious Dark Circle Cream from Sally's Beauty for a price of about $15. Anti-Sagging Treatment - I purchased Medix Retinol Body Lotion Firming Moisturizer & Crepey Skin Care Treatment from Amazon. It is incredibly reasonably priced (2 (15 oz) bottles for 26.95. I leave one by my sink and one bottle in my closet. I target the inside of my thighs, upper arms, forehead, and the creases on my chin with this cream, and I can see results. The lotion contains retinol and ferulic acid and targets wrinkles, sagging skin, stretch marks, and sun-damaged dry skin.
,,My chiropractor, Ali Austin at Duxbury Wellness, recommended a fascia blaster for me about ten years ago to keep my fascia healthy. I thought, what the heck is a fascia blaster but, trusting her, I went ahead and bought a fascia blaster and kept it in my shower and religiously started blasting my calves after having applied body wash to make the back and forth motion smooth. I become so intrigued by the benefits of how my calves were healthy, I dove deep into learning more about the creator of the fascia blaster, Ashley Black and now use the fascia blaster on many parts of my body. The facial blaster has been a great addition to the products and my beauty regimen.
Participating in sports in an essential part of my life so I need to keep my muscles healthy. I routinely apply an herbal cream that my acupuncturist, Michelle Hamilton of Family Acupuncture of Middleboro, MA developed. It is a game changer. Contact Michelle to purchase, her contact info is below. I apply it to my calves, lower back, trapezoid and bottom of my feet before I head out to play a sport. When I am crunched for time, I spray CVS Cold and Hot Pain Relief as well as bring that to the court or course with me.
I take JuicePlus daily and have for about 20 years. JuicePlus is a whole food supplement. I was introduced to it after I had a long period of recurrent sinus infections. A friend suggested I explore acupuncture to solve my allergy/sinus problems. I remember on my first visit to the acupuncturist, I had to write down all the vitamins and supplements I took which were a lot! He asked why I took so many. I said, "to stay healthy, of course!" He replied, "well, it doesn't seem to be working!" Ironically, the same week I was invited to my neighbors to learn about JuicePlus and I have been taking it since!
I was looking for the right Omega 3 supplement to add to my repertoire and learned that theirs was unique: "Most omega products come in softgel form, which requires heat and oxygen to fill and seal. Heat and oxygen actually cause oils to start degrading. Our vegan capsule shell is sealed without heat, protecting the oils inside. And that bubble you see in each Omega Blend capsule? That's nitrogen, which replaces the oxygen, protecting the oils from degradation again. So, by harvesting omegas from the original algae source, cold-pressing oils from berries and seeds to maintain purity, and placing them inside a capsule made from plants, eliminating heat and oxygen along the way, we are able to bring you a symphony of omega fatty acids in a clean, vegan, eco-friendly way."- |
